Torsten Heinemann is a professor of sociology at the Institute of Sociology at Universit├Ąt Hamburg. Prior to this, he was a Senior Researcher at the Humboldt University of Berlin and PI at the Goethe University Frankfurt. Torsten studied sociology, political sciences and psychology in Frankfurt and was a scholar of the German National Academic Foundation as well as a visiting scholar at Columbia University and New York University, New York and the Fondation Brocher, in Geneva (Switzerland). His research interests are in social problems and social control, social and critical theory, sociology of science, social studies of science and technology with a special focus on the neurosciences and genetics, cultural sociology, and public understanding of science.
