Torsten Heinemann is a professor of sociology at the
Institute of Sociology at Universität Hamburg. Prior
to this, he was a Senior Researcher at the Humboldt
University of Berlin and PI at the Goethe
University Frankfurt. Torsten studied sociology, political sciences and psychology in Frankfurt and was a scholar of the German National Academic Foundation
as well as a visiting scholar at Columbia University
and New York University

and the Fondation Brocher
, in Geneva (Switzerland).
His research interests are in social problems and
social control, social and critical theory, sociology of science, social studies of science and technology with a special focus on the neurosciences and genetics, cultural sociology, and public understanding of science.
